Museum of the Moving Image

Learn about the Past and Present of Film, Video and Video Games!

This Queens art museum is dedicated to the history and evolution of the moving image from cinema to video games. In addition to regularly changing special exhibitions, this enthralling museum has a large permanent exhibition called "Behind the Screen." This permanent exhibtion displays artifacts and items such as sound recording equipment, old video games (which visitors can try their hand at!), film reels, cameras, televisions and much more.

 

Interactive displays and live demonstrations keep both kids and adults engaged in the museum experience. If you come at the right time you can see a film screened in the museum's exotic 1920s style movie theater - check the website for details! The Museum of the Moving Picture is one of the most interesting art museums in Queens. Open Tuesday through Sunday, adult admission is $12.

See New York as Never Before!

The Queens Museum of Art is housed in the New York City Building, a building built the 1939/40 World's Fair and the only surviving structure from it. The museum's collections include an extensive array of items, memorabilia and documents relating to the 1939 and 1964 World's Fair. Art work by many famous artists including Salvador Dali and Williams Sharp are on display at this great art museum in Queens.

 

Probably the most famous permanent exhibition at the museum is the Panorama of New York City - a 9,335 square foot miniature model of all 5 boroughs of the city of New York. It includes an accurate representation of every building in the city built before 1992 - nearly 900,000 structures. Admission to the museum is a suggested donation of $5 per adult visitor. Open Wednesday through Sunday.
