For one of the best outdoor excursions, visit Whetstone Gulf State Park in Upstate NY. The park has one of the most spectacular scenic views east of the Rocky Mountains. It is built in and around a three-mile-long gorge and offers countless attractions to please visitor of all ages. The park features 56 wooden campsites, a picnic area, playgrounds, cross-country skiing and hiking trails, swimming and fishing areas, and much more.
The park is open from Memorial Day through mid-September for the summer season, and from December 15 through March 15 for winter recreation. Beach fees: day use (peak) $7, after 4 pm $5; vehicle entry fees: day use (peak) $7, after 4 pm $5, day use (non-peak) $6, after 4 pm $4. For $65, the Empire Passport provides you with unlimited day use vehicle entry into the park.
