New York City's Most Haunted House
High on the list of historic homes in NYC, Merchant’s House, built in 1832, boasts that it is NYC’s only 19th century home to have “survived virtually intact, inside and out.” It is located in downtown NYC and is a great example of the Federal brick architectural style. The house has thousands of preserved belongings (decorations, books, clothing, furniture, photographs and personal items) of the affluent Tredwell family and their Irish servants.
Also hailed as NYC’s most haunted house, Gertrude Tredwell is thought by many to still reside in her upstairs bedroom. If you are visiting in October you may want to sign up for the museum’s Candlelight Ghost Tours. If you like historic haunted houses NYC visit this house museum Thursday – Monday from 12pm to 5pm
