This historical society and historic museum in Brooklyn has the most wide ranging collection of Brooklyn related materials in existence. Located within a Brooklyn landmark building, this historical museum and library will captivate those with an interest in the history of Brooklyn or NYC. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday year round. Admission is $6 per adult visitor.

Harbor Defense Museum

The city's only army museum, the Harbor Defense Museum is located within 19th century Fort Hamilton. Committed to preserving and generating interest in the history of New York's coastal defense system, the sizable collections and displays of artifacts and objects from the fort's history are an enthralling look at the past. 

 

This museum is also home to an extensive collection of general military artifacts from the Revolutionary War through to World War II. When you visit you can see their regularly rotating exhibitions, can tour the historic fort and can even learn how to load and fire a 19th century cannon! Open Monday through Saturday, this museum is free to visit.
